Visions In Green

Cassandra woke from a disturbed dream. She recognised it as one of her 'special dreams'.

Shivering, she climbed from her bunk and went to the small en-suite attached to the room she shared with four others from her squad. Turning on the tap of the small sink, she splashed  cold water over her face. She didn't dare look at her reflection in the mirror. She had swiftly learned never to repeat the mistake she had made as a small child.

Eventually her heartbeat had returned to a semblance of normal and she crawled back into her bunk. Sleep eluded her for the remainder of the night and she was glad when dawn's soft rays began to light the room.

Tired, Cassandra climbed into her black uniform, placing her  red beret on her head with pride.

Things had been quiet for a long time. Because of this, Westminster had passed a series of cost cutting reforms which had cut UNIT forces deeply. Cassandra had little doubt that it wouldn't be long before she would be out of a job.

Sergeant Jacob Essen awaited in the drill square as his squad assembled for inspection.  Unless a miracle happened, today would be very difficult day.
