DL Space Program
« on: May 03, 2011, 09:27:22 pm »
Zeg's already stated that the space program in the DLverse had a lunar landing in 1965 (same year that von Braun's Project Horizon planned for) and the main space center at Honolulu.

I have a few ideas;

*Woomera, Australia is probably used for bulk launches with the sole purpose of rocket testing and getting stuff into orbit.

*Honolulu's location is better for equatorial launches, possibly direct transfers, also HQ for the Royal Space Force.

*Churchill station was built in orbit during the 1950s from the second stage rocket fuel tanks flushed out, bolted together and then pressurized.

*Royal Space Force is another military arm modeled on the RAF and admined by the Ministry of Space.

*Interplantary missions could be launched from Churchill station, means larger capacity ships built in orbit.

*Prior to June 1965 a few unmanned missions dropped supplies and building materials onto the lunar surface after a couple of flyby recce missions. The June 1965 mission put man on the moon and saw the start of a moonbase, follow-up missions brought additional personnel and supplies. Moonbase is operational within a few weeks allowing people to live there.

*The lunar missions probably involved a 'mothership' ferrying a lunar lander, said ship could be called 'Victoria-1'.

This is going on the assumption that the RSF's ranks were derived from those

OK, some pics.

This was the Britannia spaceplane that Sir Henry flew into space....then crashed on return.

One of the Landers from the Mars Expeditionary Force, would be in display in modern day Honolulu.
